How Good Domain Names Portray Brand

February 6th, 2008 admin Posted in All-Posts, How To Use Our Tool, Making Money, SEO | No Comments »

We’ve talked a bit about how keywords in your domain name is helpful, now let’s talk about how domain names can help convey a brand.

If you don’t have millions of dollars to spend on an online advertising campaign, you can still create brand awareness simply by choosing a domain name that conveys the topic of what the site is about, along with being catchy. You can also leverage existing brands to help create that added comfort with your brand. For example, if I were going to start a home improvement website that dealt with how-to information, kitchen decorating, remodeling, interior design, etc… it would not only pay to have keywords in the domain for search engine purposes, but make it memorable. One I really like is www.RemodelingMySpace.com. While this clearly conveys that the site is about home remodeling, it also leverages one of the most highly recognized online brands, making it not only more memorable, but there is instant rapport due to the comfort level of that brand.

Another great domain that conveys brand as well as content/context, is www.PhdComic.com. This is clearly a website about humor, and seems to be more geared toward the more intellectual crowd, than the typical Jackass crazed twenty something.

The point is, make your domain name brandable, searchable, and memorable, and your job of marketing your website will be much easier.

Why Keywords Are Important in a Domain Name

October 28th, 2007 PaulM Posted in All-Posts, Making Money, SEO | 7 Comments »

So, you’ve heard that keywords in a domain name are not important? Well, what you’ve heard is pure BS… they are VERY important.

If you are wondering why, you can hear it from THE top SEO guru - the man who wrote the book… SEO Book that is, Aaron Wall. Here’s a video Aaron just posted:

How To Tell If A Domain Has Fake PageRank

October 28th, 2007 PaulM Posted in All-Posts, Expired Domains, How To Use Our Tool | No Comments »

There is concern that some of the domains being displayed here have faked PageRank. After visiting and seeing comments at a recent post at domainleft.com, I thought it would be prudent to make a post here so you all can check to see if the domain you want has faked PageRank.

From DropHistory.com who left the first comment:

“Here is a quick tip for checking for valid page rank. Since fake high page rank is created by forwarding to high PR sites, google will not index pages from forwarding sites.

Do a google search for info:suspecteddomain.com and if it comes up with a result showing a link to the index page of the domain, then the PR should be good. If nothing comes up then chances are the PR is faked…”

Abdul, who runs DomainLeft.com where the post is, then offered a link to a great post he made about checking for faked PageRank - I suggest you read it rather than me make a whole post about this issue!

Here’s a recap:

  1. check for Google backlinks with PR (available from our tool)
  2. check WayBackMachine data (available from our tool)
  3. check for Yahoo backlinks with PR (soon to be available from our tool)
  4. check for any Alexa traffic rankings (soon to be available from our tool)

Get the details from Abdul… - thanks Abdul!

Insider Domain Name Snatching Probed

October 24th, 2007 PaulM Posted in All-Posts, Domain Name News | No Comments »

Now this is just plain…. well, expected.

It’s a statement of the ever present thoughtform of ‘lack’ (I need MORE) that causes people or organizations to screw whoever they can to make a buck.

If ICANN is ’suspicious’ that there is insider domain name snatching going on, then it IS going on and they don’t want to let the cat out of the bag before they can do whatever is necessary to avoid looking like idiots for having holes in the system that allow this to occur in the first place!

Here’s a few excerpts from the press release: Read the rest of this entry »

1002+ Surefire Ways to Get Links.

October 24th, 2007 PaulM Posted in All-Posts, SEO | No Comments »

Not so much about expired domains directly, but what to do with them afterward, this post by PaulH over at Assetica.co.uk is a great list of ways for you to build links. He claims there are 1002 ways listed, but you’ll find that the last point reveals a neat little secret.

He has another post about 18 NASTY ways to get links - and advises you not to try them (and I agree), unless that’s your bag of chips. There is some NASTY, NASTY stuff in there - I’d never do any of these… lucky I’m an albino white, white hatter. ;)

Today’s guest post is from Pawel Reszka of AffHelper.com

Today’s age is all about recycling and nothing seems to have capitalized on this more than expired domain names. These have represented a great potential of earning quick money online. Ever since the dot com downfall people have been thinking of innovative ways to access tools which track expiring websites every single day!

Count yourself lucky

Until recently, only a handful of people could earn a fortune from expired domain names. It’s because they had access to automated tools which tracked every website which ceased to exist. However with the plenty of modern tools available today, you can tap into the tremendous potential of expired domain names.

What are expired domain names?

Backorder Domain Names From DeletedLIVE Results

October 24th, 2007 PaulM Posted in All-Posts, Expired Domains, New Tools | No Comments »

One of the very helpful tools in the DeletedLIVE results is the “BD” column, AKA; “Backorder This Domain”.

Once you have found the high PageRank domain you want that is expiring (you’ll have to check the WhoIs data to see if it’s been renewed within the last 24-48 hours), you can place a backorder on it which places you in an auction for the expiring domain. We link directly to the NameJet Backordering service for domain backordering (strictly because they were the only ones who made it easy enough to do so). Coincidentally, today I read this press release that NameJet has formed a relationship with two of the major domain registrars, Network Solutions, and eNom.

What Other Tools Should We Add?

October 23rd, 2007 PaulM Posted in All-Posts, Expired Domains, How To Use Our Tool, New Tools | No Comments »

Since we acquired DeletedLIVE.com, we’ve seriously improved the toolset that is provided for each expired or expiring domain we list.

What We’re Adding This Week

In addition to the tools like the WayBackMachine data, DomainTools WhoIs and website data, and links to Google backlinks, we’re adding some pretty neat stuff in the next few days….

  1. ‘Jump to Page’ function added to search results pages. Let’s you jump to a specific page within a large number of results pages. You’re at page 2 of 37 and want to see what’s in the middle of the batch… now you can use the ‘jump to page’ tool.

How To Grab an Expired or Expiring Domain

October 22nd, 2007 PaulM Posted in All-Posts, Expired Domains, How To Use Our Tool | 1 Comment »

While we’re doing our best to provide you with a helpful tool for FINDING high PageRank expiring domains, once you’ve created a list of domains with all the SEO qualities you like, the next big question arises… “how do I GRAB expired domains?”

Well, there are several places you can go to backorder domains that are about to expire, but you’ll want to use a service that has the power and pull to obtain your domain THE INSTANT it becomes available, or else someone with more power and juice will steal it from you.  Power and pull comes in the form of server power and relationships. - ‘How much server power can you throw at being the first into the domain’s registrar the instant the domain expires?’ …and ‘how healthy are your relationships with the registrars?’.

When it comes to obtaining high PageRank domains with good age value, links and high keyword SEO value, you’d better bet you’re not the only one hoping to claim the goldmine - so having power and pull, pays.

So, who are the domain backorder specialists with the power and the pull?

3 Hot Tips for Finding Great Domains

October 17th, 2007 admin Posted in All-Posts, Expired Domains, How To Use Our Tool | 1 Comment »

Here are three quick and easy hot tips for finding a domain with the juice to get you to the top of the search results.

Tip #1: Search for single letters

Having trouble finding a domain with your keyword? Instead of searching for keywords, try just searching for an “a”, or “u”. My mother says she heard somewhere that words with “k” in them are attractive. So search for a domain with a “k” that’s related to your niche. Be creative. Read the rest of this entry »
